The Family Bible: A Priceless Heirloom

Its history and Evolvement with Inscriptions of Family History Events.

Rena King

A4, 87 pages.ISBN: 978-1-906-280-39-0

Inheriting a Family Bible, full of birth, marriage and death inscriptions and personally annotated by your ancestors is extremely fortunate since many did not survive the ravages of time. Many were lost or accidentally destroyed when no known relation could be found to pass on the precious heirloom. Realising this, the author started collecting and began noting all the surnames from as many Bible inscriptions as she could find. However, she soon discovered that written inside many bibles were also details of family emigration; sons going off to war; children's illnesses and vaccinations; life changing events - loss of limb etc. and even exceptional weather conditions. Here she has endeavored to keep alive the irreplaceable details and memories by writing this book of fascinating family history tales and trivia.

Rena King has for over 40 years been actively involved in family history, eventually retiring from working at the then Public Record Office and then The National Archives and finally the Family Record Centre in London. during her time as an accredited genealogist she taught the subject in local colleges as well as writing articles for national magazines. Today she runs a local family group for the U3A organisation.
