This guide is not intended to take the place of any of the excellent Family History Research Books which are easily available. It was originally intended as a follow up to Trace Your Ancestor Classes, such as those run by Local Education Authorities and Family History Societies, but mainly the First Steps and Further Steps Days organised by The Birmingham and Midland Society for Genealogy and Heraldry/Midland Ancestors, where/when it may not have been easy to take notes. Nevertheless, I hope that this will prove useful to anyone and everyone reading it.
